Waikowhai Park

It is Conservation Week (3-7 November).

We wanted to discover the area we live in so we went to Waikowhai Park. We had a great morning at this beautiful park. It had a fun playground. We did a small bush walk down to Faulkner Bay. We picked up rubbish from the beach so it does not float out into the sea. We made a sandcastle. Please ask us more about our trip.

"I like to go to parks," said Mariam. "I saw the birds flying over the sea.

"The park had a big slide. I like to play on the big slide," said Harvest.

"We picked up rubbish because we want to look after animals," said Damsey.

"We made a sandcastle with leaves, sticks and shells", said Deborah.

"I like the park because there is lots to do," said Francesca.

"I saw ducks," said Von'Zy.

"I saw shells," said Astera. "There are beautiful flowers at the park."

"I built a sandcastle," said Kahealani.

"I wrote my name in the sand," said Jahrey.

"We had a picnic at the park," said Ita.

"I wrote my name in the sand," said Amethyst.

"We went for a bush walk. We could hear birds," said Akesa.

"We had fun!" said Galila.

Science - Living World

We love our school gardens - the Food Forest, the vegetable gardens, the flowers. We love all the new trees and shrubs and the big old trees. We know that growing our own vegetables is healthy for us. We have been growing bean seeds and now they are tall plants! Here we are planting the small seeds. Our seeds need soil, water, air and sunlight. We will take our bean plants home and put them in our own gardens. Next we will plant pea seeds.

Shared Reading

We love to read Elmer stories by David McKee. We read Elmer and the Lost Teddy. Elmer is a great elephant - special, kind, different. We made our own patchwork elephants, just like Elmer.

Origami

Room 8 had a great time on  Friday learning about the art of origami. Buddy class Room 11 helped Room 8 children make a boat and a fox.

Learning about one half

In Room 8 we have been learning about one half. The task was to cut our banana in half. The two pieces of banana had to be the same size so we could equally share between two people.

I like the way you are using your number rockets, Room 8.

Maths in Room 8

We are very excited about being able to share our learning with you. We love to learn about numbers and here are Jahrey and Damsey learning to put numbers in order.
